Visibility Intelligence Methodology
How Optimus Pass evaluates whether search engines and AI assistants can find, read, and surface your website — and what an analyst adds on top of the diagnostic.

What does Optimus Pass measure in a Visibility Intelligence engagement?
Optimus Pass evaluates the conditions that affect whether search engines and AI assistants can find, read, and surface a website: search readiness (indexability, meta signals, canonical configuration), AI-search readiness (retrievability and citability signals for AI search), crawler-access configuration (the rules your site exposes, not observed traffic), and — for a defined set of prompts at a point in time — manual AI-answer observations recorded by a human analyst. AEO Readiness is offered as a diagnostic in Beta. An analyst validates material findings, assigns business relevance, and prioritizes fixes. The output is a prioritized fix list — not a guarantee of rankings, citations, traffic, or revenue.
What we measure, in plain English
Every measurement below is something a person can verify by looking at a file on your site, a configuration value, or a documented AI answer. Nothing here is a guess about rankings, traffic, or how a specific AI engine will respond to a specific prompt.
- Search readiness — Can a search engine find and read the page? We look at indexability signals, meta tags, canonical configuration, and JSON-LD validity.
- AI-search readiness — Is the page structured so AI assistants can pick it up and cite it? We look at retrievability and citability signals, structured data, and self-contained answer blocks.
- AEO Readiness — Beta — Does the page have the answer-engine patterns (answer blocks, question-formatted headings, visible Q&A content, self-contained answers)? This is a diagnostic, not a guarantee of being picked as a featured answer.
- Crawler-access configuration — What do your robots.txt, meta robots, and X-Robots-Tag headers say? This is configuration evidence — it is not the same as a crawler actually visiting your site.
- Manual AI-answer observations — A human analyst asks a defined set of prompts to public AI assistants and records the answers at a point in time. It is a snapshot, not a tracker.
- Agent Readiness — A subordinate lens that checks whether a clear action path can be identified and understood on a page. It is an enabling condition; it does not mean agents will recommend or transact on the site.
Ad Compliance methodology is separate. This page covers Visibility Intelligence. The methodology for the 65-detector Ad Compliance scanner lives on the Ad Compliance product page. Visibility scores and compliance scores are not blended.
The core distinction: what is on the page vs. what the site allows
Two different things get confused in this space. Optimus Pass keeps them separate.
Site readiness
What the page says and how it is built
Plain English: Title tags, meta descriptions, structured data, canonical links, heading structure, and the content itself. These are the things a search engine or AI assistant would read if it could get to the page.
Technical detail: Deterministic evaluation of on-page signals: indexability (robots/sitemap/canonical), meta tags (title, description, robots), JSON-LD validity and required fields, heading hierarchy, and structured-data presence.
Crawler accessibility
Whether the site's rules let a crawler in
Plain English: Whether your robots.txt file, meta robots tags, and HTTP response headers say a search engine or AI assistant is allowed to read the page.
Technical detail: Grounded evidence from robots.txt directives, page-level meta robots, and X-Robots-Tag headers — preserved alongside retrieval status, HTTP status, evaluated user-agent, evaluated path, and matched directive. If the evidence is missing, the conclusion is NOT EVALUATED, not assumed.
Crawler accessibility is not observed activity. "Crawler accessibility" answers the question is this page permitted to be retrieved?. It does not answer: did a crawler actually visit, was the page indexed, did an AI engine ingest it, or will it be cited. Those are different questions and they require different evidence.
Manual AI-answer observations, and what they are not
When an Optimus Pass analyst "observes AI answers", here is exactly what that means — and what it does not.
What it is
Plain English: A person opens a public AI assistant, asks a specific question on your defined list, and writes down what was said — including whether your brand, page, or competitor was mentioned.
Technical detail: A point-in-time set of observed responses for a defined prompt panel, recorded by a human analyst with the prompt, the assistant, the date, and the observed answer text. The result is qualitative evidence — it is not a stream of data and it is not a historical record.
What it is not
- Not automated monitoring. Optimus Pass does not currently run continuous, scheduled prompt collection on your behalf.
- Not citation monitoring. We do not track whether or where AI engines cite you over time.
- Not share of voice. We do not calculate what percentage of AI answers in a category mention you.
- Not a guarantee. A single observation at a point in time does not predict what the same assistant will say tomorrow, next week, or for a different user.
AEO Readiness — Beta
BetaAEO stands for Answer Engine Optimization. It is the practice of structuring pages so they are easier for AI assistants and search engines to lift a direct, self-contained answer from.
What AEO Readiness evaluates
- Plain English: Does the page have short, self-contained answer blocks that could be quoted directly?
- Plain English: Are headings phrased as questions a user might actually ask?
- Plain English: Is there a visible FAQ section with question-and-answer content? (FAQPage schema is noted informationally only: Google discontinued FAQ rich results for all sites in May 2026.)
- Technical detail: Detection of answer blocks (semantic completeness ~134–167 words), question-formatted H2/H3 headings, visible Q&A content (FAQPage JSON-LD noted informationally, never scored as a requirement), and named sources on data claims.
What AEO Readiness does NOT do
- Does notpresent a score as an objective measure of "market visibility."
- Does not predict whether a page will be selected as a featured snippet, voice answer, or AI Overview citation.
- Does not imply that an AEO Readiness score is comparable across engines.
AEO Readiness is labeled Beta because answer-engine optimization is an evolving field. Evaluations are diagnostic, not predictive. They tell you whether the structure of your page is consistent with the patterns AI engines tend to lift — not whether a specific engine will lift it.
Agent Readiness
Agent Readiness is a subordinate lens inside Visibility Intelligence. It checks whether a clear action path can be identified and understood on a page — the kind of thing a human or an AI agent would need in order to decide what to do next. It is an enabling condition, not a promise.
The five-stage framework
- 1DISCOVER — Can the page be found? (Plain English: would a reasonable person or AI assistant be able to locate it in the first place?)
- 2UNDERSTAND — Once on the page, is the offering and its value proposition clear?
- 3EVALUATE — Are the facts needed to decide (pricing, scope, constraints, ownership) present and unambiguous?
- 4COMPARE — Is there enough on-page context to compare against alternatives without leaving the page?
- 5USE — Can a clear next step be identified and understood? (Plain English: is it obvious what to do, and how to do it?)
What Agent Readiness does not claim
- It does not mean agents will recommend your business.
- It does not mean agents will transact on your site.
- It is not an Agent Commerce Readiness assessment. Agent Commerce is a different product area that Optimus Pass does not currently offer.
- It is not a claim about specific protocol support. Optimus Pass does not position itself as supporting — or evaluating support for — any particular agent transaction protocol.
How evidence is evaluated
A finding is only as good as the evidence behind it. Every material finding in an Optimus Pass Visibility report carries a defined evidence structure.
Every material finding carries
- URL — the exact page the finding applies to
- Observed evidence — what was actually seen in the diagnostic
- Finding status — confirmed, suspected, or not evaluated
- Analyst interpretation — what the finding means in context
- Business relevance — why it matters to your specific objective
- Recommendation — the change that would address the finding
- Confidence — how strong the evidence is
- Owner & acceptance criteria — who would fix it and how you would know it's done
Why this matters: A score without evidence is a guess. A finding with evidence, status, interpretation, and an owner is a fix list. Optimus Pass is a fix list.
What an analyst adds on top of the diagnostic
A deterministic diagnostic can tell you whether a page has a self-contained answer block, whether a robots.txt rule allows a specific user-agent, or whether the JSON-LD is valid. An analyst decides which of those findings actually matters for your business.
What the diagnostic does
Produces structured findings from your priority URLs. Returns evidence-backed observations with no business interpretation attached.
What the analyst adds
- Business relevance — what this means for your stated objective
- Prioritization — impact, effort, and recommended owner
- Acceptance criteria — how you would know a fix worked
- Confidence — where the evidence is strong vs. weak
- Do Not Prioritize Yet — what is intentionally out of scope for now
Implementation verification is a separate step. When a prioritized fix is applied, the analyst re-runs the diagnostic on the same URL and confirms whether the finding is now resolved. This is verification, not production implementation.
Re-measurement
Plain English: Within 30 days of delivery, you may request one re-scan of up to 3 of your original priority URLs. It tells you whether a prioritized fix was applied and whether the diagnostic now reflects it.
Technical detail: A one-time, scope-limited re-run of the diagnostic against the original evidence contract. The output is a verification result, not a longitudinal dataset.
Re-measurement is not monitoring. It is a one-time check, not a recurring service. Continuous monitoring is not currently offered.
What we do not measure
The following are explicitly outside the scope of Optimus Pass Visibility Intelligence in this release. If you need one of these, we will tell you up front during intake and recommend a partner that does.
A note on the Ad Compliance methodology
This page covers the Visibility Intelligence methodology. Optimus Pass also offers an Ad Compliance product, which evaluates ad copy for platform-policy risk using a separate 65-detector engine. The two products have different inputs, different outputs, and different truth contracts. Visibility scores and Ad Compliance scores are never blended. The Ad Compliance methodology lives on the Ad Compliance Checker product page.
