Structured Data

Optimus Pass Glossary · Last updated August 29, 2026

Definition

Structured data is standardized markup — most commonly JSON-LD using the schema.org vocabulary — that tells search engines and AI systems what content represents: an article, a product, an FAQ, an organization. It makes meaning explicit instead of leaving it to be inferred from text.

Why it matters

Structured data helps a machine parse entities and relationships on the page, and it is required for eligibility for many rich results. It does not guarantee enhanced listings.

Practical example

A glossary page marks each definition as a DefinedTerm inside a DefinedTermSet, so an engine can map the term, its meaning, and its URL without guessing.

Frequently asked questions

Does structured data improve rankings?+
Google states structured data is not a direct ranking factor. It helps machines understand the page and unlocks eligibility for enhanced result features.
Should I mark up everything?+
No. Markup that misrepresents content or spams irrelevant types can be ignored or trigger manual actions. Mark up what is actually on the page.
